TANGERINE DREAM: The Quantum Evolution

(THORSTEN QUAESCHNING interview + music mix)

Founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese in West Berlin, Tangerine Dream is one of the most prominent electronic music pioneers. Its legendary status was built on a prolific discography and decades of innovation. The studio and live albums released in the 70s and 80s form the core of Tangerine Dream's unmistakable style. Besides these, many of their fans were introduced to Tangerine Dream by their film soundtracks, which include Sorcerer (William Friedkin), Thief (Michael Mann), Risky Business (Paul Brickman), Firestarter (Mark Lester), Legend (Ridley Scott), among many other movies. After Edgar Froese died in 2015, the group consists of Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane, and Paul Frick. Thorsten is the current bandleader and the main creative force after spending many years under the direct guidance of Froese. In the following interview, he discusses the challenges of continuing such a significant legacy and the present phase of the project. The timing of this special episode is set just days before the first Tangerine Dream concert in Romania, the home country of this show.
