Steve Hauschildt has long explored the liminal spaces of electronic music. Born in 1984 in Bay Village, Ohio, and now based in Tbilisi, he is best known as one-third of the experimental trio Emeralds, but he has also made a significant mark as a solo artist. Through the labels Kranky Records and Ghostly International, he has released acclaimed albums including Tragedy & Geometry, Sequitur, Strands, Dissolvi, and Nonlin. This month, after a six-year hiatus, he returns with a new release, Aeropsia. In this conversation, we’ll delve into Steve’s journey from Emeralds to his solo work, his evolving approach to composition and performance, and the philosophies that shape his music.
